Why is the Scholarship only available to first-time breeders?
The goal is to bring new breeders into the sport. Breeders producing a second litter already have experience and access to resources, while first-time breeders need the most support.
What can I use the Scholarship for?
The Scholarship is expected to cover the costs of health testing the dam, litter registration, and maybe a squeaky toy or two!
Does the sire of my litter have to be health tested?
Health testing may not be available for all sires (for example, using frozen semen of a deceased dog).
Does the dam of my litter need to be a Champion?
No she doesn’t. We understand that new breeders, just like in the mid-century, started off breeding, and then discovered dog shows as a way to compare their breeding stock and find quality dogs from which to breed.

Why can't I apply for the Scholarship if my litter is a Sire (or Dam) to Offspring breeding or a Littermate breeding?
New breeders may not yet have the depth of knowledge of the pedigrees with which they are working to avoid the possible pitfalls of breeding so closely.
What kind of mentoring is available?
We have over a hundred years of experience breeding dogs. We will help you in any way we can or find resources that will. The 450 page book Canine Reproduction and Neonatology is available to loan before you mate a pair of Afghan Hounds and we will get you one of your own if you successfully get a bitch pregnant. This book is a $100 value.
